Sportsfest Opening
City Sports Club Cebu’s Basketball Court was painted yellow, green, blue and gray as CHI employees wore their team colors in the opening of CHI’s year-round sportsfest in the morning of June 7, 2008. A parade of team colors opened the ceremony with Mikmik Corvera, Nhize Aguitong, Jia Sison and Rose Ann Fuego leading the way for Gray, Yellow, Green and Blue teams, respectively.
As each team was introduced by program host, Mayette Sotelo, chants and yells maybe heard from the excited and energized team members. The opening program was graced by no less than CHI President, Mr. Francis O. Monera, who enjoined everybody to take part and have fun in every sports activity. The oath of sportsmanship lead by Engr. Levi Lopez, PMD Manager, reiterated the rules and values of the whole sports activity. And to mark the start of the year round sports festivities, Engr. Zaldy Casinillo lead the ceremonial lighting of the torch.
Free throw shooting successfully finished by Michele Chiu and Mike Galang and Fun games won by the Yellow-Green team warmed the team spirit as the men’s basketball team prepared for their opening game. The day ended with Yellow-Green team emerging as winners in the best of 7 basketball game series. The Yellow team was also named the Biggest Color Contingent for this season.
Basketball Game
Winning the championship for two straight years now is the Yellow-Green team. This year’s tournament marked a 4-3 winning streak in favor of the Yellow-Green team as they successfully defeated the Blue-Grey team in Game 7 last July 28, 2008. The Blue-Grey team, though came in 2nd, was still happy with the results but they look forward to their victory in the next tournament. The basketball games, which were held every Monday at the City Sports Club Cebu Basketball Court, brought thrilled and excited supporters together on Monday nights.
Kudos to the Yellow-Green team players, Richard Tenchavez, Jack Alfante, Enrico Flores, Lydell Ducante, Carlo Enriquez, Bobby Iran, Paul Camson, Melvin Tugbo, Ferdie Rojo , Ernesto Ocasiones, Zander Abellanosa and Mackoy Parras.
Bowling Tournament
After the successful Basketball Tournament in July, the Bowling competition brought all bowling enthusiasts to the bowling lane. Headed by the CHI PLUS Bowling team leaders, Tina Co and Cathy Guangco, a call for bowling try-outs on September 8 and 10 was announced. Each of the team- yellow, blue, green and gray- is expected to come up with a 6-member bowling team composed of 3 men and 2 women and 1 reserved.
The tournament started with the elimination round in September 24, 2008 at the City Sports Club Cebu Bowling Center. The elimination resulted to the Blue Team versus Gray team match for 3rd place and Yellow versus Green team match for Championship. In September 25, during the Championship game, Blue team bagged the 3rd place, Yellow team placed 2nd and the Green team composed of Bobby Iran, Leo Cadiz, Stefan Reroma, Ferdie Rojo, Bernadine Nacua, Flair Sabellano, Kaye Pacaña, was declared champion in this year’s bowling competition.
Upcoming Tournaments
The HR and Admin team, in coordination with the CHI PLUS (Personality and Lifestyle Upliftment Strategy) sports events team leaders, is encouraging everyone to watch out for the upcoming tournament for badminton, volleyball and swimming happening in the last quarter of 2008. The teams have started practicing for these upcoming sports events. Awarding of winners will be held in December 2008 during the Anniversary celebration.
